What is a Moko?

Moko is the name for Māori tattoo and the culture that surrounds it.

Often the designs are tattooed in the face for different purposes

and with a wide range of applications which are sacred.Every moko

contains ancestral and tribal messages specific to the wearer. These

messages tell the story of the wearer's family and tribal affiliations,

and their place in these social structures.

'Tattoo' is the English version of the Tahitian word tatu. Tattoo is the

tradition of marking the skin with ink and needles, whereas moko is

the practice of scarring and marking the skin to reflect the whakapapa (genealogy) of the Māori.

Do moko symbols have a meaning?

All symbols have meaning, usually a tribal link that tells the background and stories of the wearer. Moko is a visual language that connects the wearer to their whakapapa and its values.

Why do people get moko?

A moko on the face is the ultimate statement of one's identity .For Māoris,

the head is believed to be the most sacred part of the body Therefore

to wear the moko on the face is an affirmation of the Māori identity,of who they are.

Is it only for men ?

Mokos are not just for men, also women wear moko on the face too. A

woman's moko is worn on the chin, as well as occasionally appearing on the

forehead, upper lip, nostrils, and throat. Sometimes facial moko is unfairly seen as intimidating, regardless of the wearer's intentions, but this can depend on the expression of the face of the wearer. The lines of a moko accentuate the lines of the face so emphasise the expressions that the person have.In this way the person looks like a warrior.

For what reasons people get tattoos?

Part-time Indian?

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is an autobiographical book written by Alexie Sherman in 2007. The book is about a child, whose name is Arnold Spirit, as well as known Junior, he lives in the Spokane Indian Reservation.

Because of some events that take place during the book, he wants to move from the School Reservation to a public high school located in Reardan, Washington.

The book has a lot of themes in which we can focus on more, but the one that I want to highlight is race and how is it developed in the novel.

When Arnold decided to move from the school reservation to the all-white public high school, and he starts to travel every day he said something that totally called my attention, Traveling between Reardan and Wellpinit, between the little white town and the reservation, I always felt like a stranger, I was half Indian in one place and half white in the other, it was like being Indian was my job, but it was only a part-time job” (Sherman, 2007).  Here we can see that Arnold’s point of view is in controversy, because he feels himself stranger in both places, in the reservation and in Reardan, I personally believe that his identity is changing every day, because he has to fight against bullying in the reservation, poverty, alcoholism, poor education, the lack of opportunities and on the other hand in Reardan he has to fight against stereotypes (he as an Indian boy, his talents, etc.)

According to the fact that I decided to talk about, this novel stereotypes a lot about how a white person looks like and how an Indian does. For instance the fact that is highly evident about race is the sport mascot of the Reardan School; Junior realizes that he and the mascot were the only Indians at school, and for me that was an image that we can infer from the message of racism, despite that, Junior has the power, the character, the strength to make friends with white boys from the new school, highlighting his intelligence and his naïve nature.

All in all, the novel calls my attention in a lot of terms, the way Alexie developed bullying through cartoons, the alcoholism that were immerse in the reservation, the desire to become someone important in life, how some minimum details became some important facts during the novel, for instance when Junior hit the professor and the discovery of junior mother’s book, the novel starts to play the game, they are the most important events in the novel.

What about if Alexie had not move from the reservation to Reardan? ... Interesting...

WHO IS WITHOUT SIN...

So yes, we've been working with this book called "The absolutely true diary of a part-time Indian". Haven't you read it yet? Well, let me tell you that you should -or you could watch the movie as well: Film Adaptation (trailer)

Junior, the main character, is an indian teen who was born with "water on his brain". He lives in a reservation (the rez) despised by americans, plus he's an ill guy so he's despised by his peers, too.

You see, it's not only what happens to the main character -because of who he is or where he is from- what makes this book so cool (to me), but the way the book is written, I mean the words, the metaphors and the writer's way of thinking... Yes, I find him pretty clever.

I'd like to analize the chapter called "Hope against Hope", because I believe is pretty much one of the most moving chapters of the book.

In his geometry class, Junior found out that the book that he was learning from is the same book that his mother did learn from about 30 years ago. He had realized they were helpless and he felt so angry about it that he threw the book away and it hit his teacher, Mr. P, breaking his nose.

After that Mr. P decided to have this very important conversation with Junior, which helped him make the biggest decision of his life: to finally leave the rez.

It's really moving the way Mr. P talks to Junior, he was like confessing his sins to the kid and you could feel he was truly sorry for what he had done in the past; he hurt physically and mentally, the indian kids back then, until they gave up their culture. He killed their culture, but he didn't want to do it anymore.

Mr. P saw a glow in Junior that no other kid in the rez had, he believed that Junior had thrown that book away because he still had hope, like a sign that he was refusing to give up while his classmates and all the people in the rez had already given up. Mr. P knew that Junior deserved better and that's why he tells him that the only way for him to keep his hope is leaving the reservation.

What we see in this chapter is completly heartbreaking, I mean, does you're culture defines your worth? So, because you're indian (and not NORTHamerican) you're worthless? It's really sad the fact that you have to walk away from you're "home" (or the place you were born in) to somewhere else so you can find a better life. A life that you could've perfectly had there if they had respected you, your culture and your hope, if they had helped you to keep those things.

People don't respect anything or anybody they consider less than them, and the truth is that they consider EVERYthing and EVERYbody less than them - and when I mean people, I include us as well... "Who is without sin, cast the first stone", anyone?...

The Legend of Paikea

The Legend of Paikea

The Maori are an indigenous people from New Zealand. They came to this place it does more than 1000 years from their mythical natal land Hawaiki's polynesia.

Nowadays the people maori represents 14% of the population; their history, language and traditions are very important for identity of this country.

Their cultural representations as songs, dances and haka (dancing of ancestral war) are very interesting, but what caught my attention was The Legend of Paikea, Whale Rider, who arrived from the sea mounted in a mother-whale to create the land of people maori, and to teach traditions and sacred rituals for that the people to remain united and to respect mother Nature.

In the film that we saw, Whale Rider, was reflected as Maori try to keep their customs in modern times. In this history a girl named Paikea, fight for comply her destiny, to be a leader for her people. But this is overshadowed by the desire of her grandfather Koro, because he hoped to have a grandson to inherit the title of leader.

Throughout the film we see that such a title is forbidden for women to, however this does not stop Paikea in continuing her learning behind her grandfather, demonstrating great courage and bravery for wanting to preserve her roots.

The film so much  as New Zealand´s traditions teach us much about how our culture must to be, because today most Chilean don´t know, nor care to learn from their ancestors or roots, in this case the Mapuche are a mainstay essential to the beginnings of our history as a country.

I hope this actually change, because for to grow as a country, it is extremely important to preserve traditions, but adjusting to the present.
Here I leave a link , about Paikea's history, I hope that they enjoy it!! http://activitiesnow.com/wwmagazine/Christchurch/pages/page_50.pdf

The Black Panther Party for Self Defense

This time I will talk about the BPP because for me, they were very interesting for the reason that I still don’t know if they are good or bad people, I mean, obviously they were good with their owns and because they fought for their rights, they were human beings like everyone, but discriminated by their skin color, so if you look at them by that point of view, they were really good GOOD people, but at the same time, THEY KILLED PEOPLE because they thought that was the only way to do things.

The Black Panther Party was a revolutionary organization founded by P. Newton in 1966 and he had a very solid vision for this “the vision of the Black Panther Party was to serve the needs of the oppressed people in our communities and defend them against their oppressors.”  And it was inspired by Malcolm X in the use of violence, because violence was the only language that white racist understood.

The Black Panther did really good things, they opened school for black people of poor neighborhoods, because they want their children go to school because they wanted that they have a good life, were the “white people” respected them. They have food and clothes on black churches, because for them hunger was one of the means for oppression and that must be helped.

But after all this, they always acted with violence! They just killed people and with that, they just brought more death and nothing changed.

If a have been there, I don’t know how I've probably acted in a situation like that, I don’t know If I just fought with guns or just sit and watched how everything was destroyed around me, I probably would be proud of this people that fight with such determinism for something that they believe is the right thing, but I don’t know if I could stay in the front line with them, I mean, really fighting with guns and killing people…

And there will be always the same question that I can’t answer…they were good or bad people? Maybe you will say it’s depends, but depends of what?

Finally they dissolved in 1982 because they started to separate in little groups until it was just a few members, because they were really young and politically disorganized.

Here is a movie about them, you can watch it if you want, it show how was their life and how was being a black panther member, hope you like it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOOi7z9wXC4

thank you for your time :D

Maori people : HEI TIKI

The maori people came from Polynesia and hawai, they arrived to New Zealand and there they try to keep tradition up of their cultures. He maori word means “local” or “native”. They characterize to be warriors and won war. The tattoos are really important in their lifes, in fact the face tattoo is the most important, his name is “moko”. Today still there are men that wear that tattoos. I think that this culture is really interesting because they have costum that doesn´t disappear at the moment and they have a lot of traditions interesting like the aotearoa haka, that is a ritual before their games, they show their tongues to scare their enemies and demonstrate they didn’t have fear of them. It is really amazing thing to me, when I saw it I believe that they are stronger and all of that. Maybe they pretended that were strong to won the war because the other felt intimidate with their ritual. When we see something like that we feel interested, don’t you? Here in our country is weird see something of the aboriginal people just of Mapuche people but hey are like aloof of us. Other thing attractive of this people is a figure that his head is warped, it is represent a human fetus, this is a souvenir his name is Hei Tiki and is normal in many places. This represented fertility to the women and for that the women bring put like a collar. They have own language is the maori but they talk English too. The movie that we saw today make me interesting me in this culture and I looking for information about that but I decide choose the video.

Here I let you a video of Haka, I hope you like this like me.

Rabbit- Proof Fence.

Contextualization

In 1930 Australian democracy, practiced not very usual forms for social planning
- Separated the mestizos from the aboriginal communities in which theywere born and enclosed them  in special schools where they were trained to serve whites, as seen in the book.
Referring to the book the rabbit-proof fence in Australia is a historical fact.

A British colonist Thomas Austin brought 24 wild rabbits from the UK  in order to raise this species for human consumption.
But this situation went out of control and the rabbits  population started to grow unmeasuraly which led them to escape from this  zone.

By the end of the century the amount of rabbits was  was equal to or even greater than the number of the inhabitants of the continent, hence, it was suggested fencing part of the continent in  order to protect grazing land.

my comment

In my opinión as much as the book as the movie “Rabbit on the proof fence” has allowed me to deal with severa topics and stereotypes, we can see  discrimination and persecution from white people against the black by transforming them into their slaves instead of their friends.

I believe within this last few days I have centered myself in the vision from the first unit, mainly in segregation and discrimination which I find very interesting due to the social and moral topics because this makes us realize some of our mistakes and falls, like when we try to look like something we are not or we don’t know and we have no idea how it might affect other people.

This book touched me from beginning to end  and left us a lesson about what is really important, no matter the color of our skin or gender, within our lives. The important thing is our integrity.

I would like to share something I have written on Reaction paper.

“I believe that the enemy is in ourselves and we all need to start a revolution for the people, for ourselves, in us are the words “DO NOT STAY IN SILENCE”, we must take the actions to react, not let us trample and enforce our rights, end for once with all the discrimination and be part of it, the answers is in ourselves we need to create a belief and make it the change. We all deserve a normal lifestyle without pointing out our acts and mistakes.”

Why wait for a leader or a manager? We can move the world with our ideas.

I found this poem on the Internet, this speaks for itself. :

Rabbit - Proof  Fence  poem
 Take away from my home
Ripped away  from my family
All because I´m a halft cast
I'm force to abandom my cultural ways
I'm forced to abandon my language
Sometimes it feel like there is no sun in the sky
No justice against  crime
 It seem quite  hopeless
Im loosing  all my faith,
I need to break free
I need  to escape
Along  with my sister and cousin
I´ll  run as fast as I can with them by my side
I know it  won't  be easy
It's a long  way to go
But I won't  loose hope
Many will try to harm us
Many will try to trick us
But I won't loose hope
I'm almost back where I belong
I'm almost back to jingalong
With the spirit bird guiding us every step of the way
My hearts fills with joy
I feel a familiar warmth
I feel a familiar breeze
I'm finally back where I belong
After all the pain and suffering
After all the  lies and injustice
I'm finally back to Jigalong
And from that day on I knew
That  it was my duty
To never leave.

and finally the hints with a video trailer of the film, which takes us through the major scenes book and one of the most important when it is violently removed from their home.

Thanks (:

MARRIED TO HER COUNTRY.

So far, we've seen a lot of different cultures from English-speaking countries and, to be honest, I didn't know half of them, actually, I only knew about USA and England... Shame on me, right? I know, but I never been that good at history.

So yes,  I have learnt new things about cultures and lifestyles in these classes, also the changes through the centuries and I believe, rather, I know that culture is people's most important thing.

We saw, in one of our classes, the movie "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" and, before that, we had studied the historical context where the movie were set. There is when you get to realize how much culture has changed during the last centuries, minds were too closed and every mistake was payed with the life itself.

If you take a look at the way people live nowadays, you wouldn't find so insane that a woman don't get married. But in that time (XVI century) the fact that the Queen, Elizabeth I, never got married to anyone was the strangest thing ever. She had many marriage proposals and she rejected them, even when she did find love, she let it go... Why?, well, she had this idea of being "The Virgin Queen", because she had to be "faithful" to her country, as she was married to it.

Would any woman of the XXI century, in charge of a nation, abstain of loving, of having a family and even stay virgin because of an ideology? Nowadays, most people put themselves first, and prioritize their own happiness before anyone else's.

But, thinking it through, if Elizabeth I had never done that sacrifice, she probably wouldn't be the legend she is today.

A great speech from a great Queen

While I was looking for information about Queen Elizabeth, this site came out:

http://www.historyplace.com/speeches/elizabeth.htm

The first thing that came to my mind was "Woow this seems interesting", so of course I started to read it, as I was reading it, a scene from the movie "Elizabeth: The Golden Age", which we saw in class came to my mind: Elizabeth riding a horse wearing a shining armor and talking to her troops before the battle against Spain.

As I continue to read the website, the speech that the Queen gave was there, so what Im going to do now is to put some phrases that caught my attention. The first one is

"but I assure you, I do not desire to live to distrust my faithful and loving people" I think this phrase represents the commitement and respect the Queen had for her people and for her kingdom; this kind of phrase can be see through all the speech, so of course this was one of the things that made her one of the greatest queen  of England.

Another phrase is "And therefore I am come amongst you at this time, not as for my recreation or sport, but being resolved, in the midst and heat of the battle, to live or die amongst you all; to lay down, for my God, and for my kingdom, and for my people, my honor and my blood, even the dust." While I was re-reading this phrase, it gave me the same feeling as the quote from above, this words can only come from a person who is truly commited to what she does or thinks, so as I see it in moments like this when the people of England where giving their all for their country, their Queen was giving her all too, for them. This is the moment where you can appreciate the human side of Elizabeth.

My lasts words about the speech are that this can only came from a Queen like Elizabeth, a queen that treats her country as her life, with the same value; a queen that practically is like a mother to her people. A queen that gave her life to serve her kingdom and that of course as a reward she gain the respect of all of us and a place is the history of England.

What are your toughts about this speech? Do you think her words are from the heart or just words to please her troops ?

Queen Elizabeth I as a human being

In the movie Elizabeth, the queen is represented as a warrior, lover, ruler, etc
But for me the most important role that she played was as a  human being
that can make mistakes,be afraid of the challenges of being a queen, and be a
human with needs.
The love that she felt for the pirat was forbiden for her so she has to feel
that love throgh her young servant, but with consequences that she did not
consider at all.
Additionally she felt temerous and insecure because her Catholic cousin Mary,
Queen of Scots wanted her dead.So Elizabeth has to confront many conspirations
against her.
Finally at the end of the movie we can see that Elizabeth I has to fight for her nation,
and she get married with England because before being a woman and a human being,
she is queen that has to protect her country despite her needs or fears.
She becomes the Virgin Queen , a queen who does not need a man with her in order
to rule her country.

Strong, Independent Woman

I usually feel pretty offended by the very unfair position that this society has put women, the limited we are, all the free critique we recieve daily. we're like in the eye of the hurrican of opinions; the way we dress, the things we eat, the things we say, the people we kiss, the people we date etc. are constantly an issue for people that have nothing to do with our lifes. that's maybe why seeing this character, was so refreshing for me, even if it's someone from the past. Bcause, the image of a strong and independent woman *insert black lady meme*, at these times, gives me such a hope and strenght to face the unequal situation that women live day by day.

Sometimes it's really shocking to see how difficult is for people to mental represent us like single existences, like we don't need to have a boyfriend/family/baby, for making us a place in life.I mean, living isn't any easy for we considering that we often have to make sacrifices, like giving up some aspects of our lifes for being successful in ours career,. like Elizabeth done. And that's maybe because society expects from us much more that we're about to give, they expect us to seetle down and make the model of the life of a "normal" woman, wife and mom. so there's the time of taking the bull by the horns, and say: no more, i'm gonna live for making me happy, in first place. The others come after.

p.d: The video has not much to do with the Elizabeth character, but it works pretty good in the way of adding some Girl Power to this entry. Also, the series, Broad City it's very funny, I personally recomend it.

KON KON

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9KFOaWD1LE

Some days ago, I was looking for some information on the internet, when something called my attention, a documentary poem by Cecilia Vicuña. It is a short video in which she tells us some parts of the history of Concón (my hometown), landmarks and the most important factory in the city.

For me is interesting, because she tells us about how people relate the sea with a woman, how important the wind is, the fish, the land, people.
We are all different; we have all different points of view, different ways of thinking, different ways of seeing life, and this is not an exception.

In addition to that, comes to my mind the activity of maps. What I found very interesting was the way my classmates prepared their task, it was really amazing, the creativity, the imagination.

The oral presentation despite being very short (time) I realized that was very motivating and fascinating, one group gave us food, another one gave us a little flag, and another one when they were presenting, played a song (I guess it was the group of the Celtic Fringe). I personally believe that this kind of group work motivates us in order to share and compare ideas, and to create new ways to socialize.

Power Queen.

One of the most important events in the reign of Queen Elizabeth was the Protestantism, the transformation of England. Religious policy of the Queen was the consolidation of Anglicanism and the monarchical power of the church, so attached to these beliefs Catholicism remained extinguished causing persecution by the church.
In my opinion religion was quite intolerant at that time that makes me remember a topic last unit that was discrimination, I think the time of the queen in that sense I was quite attached to one belief, not respecting the rights of other people to be and believe in what you deem correct.

To learn more of the most important facts about queen elizabeth in England I read about how important their participation was in economic activity and naval power to grant the country.

A fun fact about the craft activity and manufacturing is that the marketable product at that time was wool as raw material which dispensed many possibilities for  trade development.

Furthermore naval capabilities increased as the English naval supremacy and in return creating the British East India company which was started under the colonial period.

And finally the cultural development of the country, thanks to the Queen the country developed its more social and cultural side, giving way to the theatre, literature and architecture. one of the representatives in the country's literature is William Shakespeare, one of the most important.

With this post I wanted to highlight what elizabeth's country achieved broadly, contributions that were able to create thanks to her and the power of the queen at the time. from my point of view Queen Elizabeth has been an image for the country, as much as a reference and many important things happened under her reign.

Thanks you.

MY FAVORITE PART WAS... (?)

MY FAVORITE PART WAS... (?)

I really like to talk about not one specific point of all what we had saw in classes, because all the contents, points covered, the movies, the exposition, all that was really great, and that made this assignment really interesting and fun, I never believe that I would get so interested by any English speaking cultures, or a specific one.
At this moment I had learned a lot and I want to still doing it, I want to this classes keep this interactive way of explaining things (even if I’m not a great talker, I prefer to stay quiet and  listen very carefully), but If I have something to say, I say it.
Well, after all, I have one specific point that I like to talk, and that was the map presentation, even if the teacher says that I’ll be like “it was wonderful! Like my little ponies’ world!” I’ll say anyways.
at the beginning this activity was really boring for me and I thought that i have to do it for doing it, but then, when I started to searching information, and later listening my classmates presentation, y was really happy for being part of this, I mean, all the knowledge, all that I learned, I was underestimating the activity and all that it has to give me, sincerely I really would like activities like this will repeat in the future, because I enjoyed it a lot.if
T really like to put a link with information about my topic in the map "The Celtic Fringe" but when we was searching information, we found in so many links because all the information was so little in the websites, that if i want to put it here, it will be like 10 or 15 links, but if you want to google it, be careful, because there is even a restaurant with the same name.
-Here is one of them:
http://www.the-orb.net/encyclop/early/origins/rom_celt/celtic.html

And to finish this, I really like that you commentated what was your “favorite” part in the course of this assignment.

Thank you for your attention! :D

Was ir really her time a Golden Age?

https://sites.google.com/site/despertandoaelmundo/despertad/laedaddeorodelareinaisabeli%C2%BFmitoorealidad
Was it really her time a Golden Age?
After seeing the movie Elizabeth the Golden Age, we could see that she was a very important person in England not only by the Virgin Queen, but because despite all your family history, always remained an authoritarian woman with a character and unique talent for governing, but as shown in the link was it really her time a Golden Age? Although he had a reign of 40 years and could strengthen economic and military power in the country thanks to maritime trade, this did not last for long, since the death of their directors loyal, conceived this privilege to a few, which caused a frantic rivalry in court. Not only this problem brought profound problems in England, Catholics also refused to attend Protestant trades, which led them to suffer constant persecutions that led to executions. Will all this happened as an excuse for that her to not continue to rule as a woman, not being married and therefore not leaving heirs.
As shown in the film, Queen armor sets and directs the troops, I think this can be considered as the personification of English triumph, which until today has implications, as it is considered a woman extraordinary in a man's world. From this I can say that his time if it was gold (despite its short duration) because his reign was great not only for wealth, but because despite his painful past was always a very intelligent woman, prudent, calculator and tolerant for her country, a worthy example of strength and courage of woman.

The Virgin Queen

In this link it is possible to observe how the life of the queen Elizabeth developed his life bearing in mind from his father until she died. For me this is important since it relates directly to the matter that we see, this web page is a complement to this. She was a queen of England, the virgin queen, on having seen the movie can deduce that Elizabeth was a powerful figure so much to level country as internationally. In my opinion I can say that she was impressive before the others and they show to a figure of the woman in which already it is not despised. Even with all the power that this kingdom was possessing, there were kingdoms that were in against for saying it somehow as the kingdom of Spain. In this web site it is possible to estimate practically everything what was appearing in the movie and what the teacher has said to us. With the information of everything what we have seen and in addition this page we can do a general idea to us and I believe that it completes.
To me what more I am called myself the attention was that the queen Elizabeth put prisionera to Mary the succesor of the throne and I give the orders to kill her. Here not only it appears information of this there is more information.
The queen Elizabeth is a worthy representative of the femininity, in order that they do not say that the women are unable to govern or not to have the same aptitudes to do what one supposes that a man would do it well. In my opinion the women are so or mas qualified that the men for these labors, and this is a good example of leadership. At the same time it is a way of showing that she was a bit cruel and was accustomed that they were obeying it in everything.https://www.royal.gov.uk/HistoryoftheMonarchy/KingsandQueensofEngland/TheTudors/ElizabethI.aspx

A good song to enjoy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRfuAukYTK On this post I want to show you a musical video. This video is important for me, I really like this song because for me represent that we can’t fall with the destructive comments of other people said you.
The message is from David Guetta and Sia ( she is who sing this song) their focus are the audio and the song intonation for attract atttention to listen this song. The people that understand english or like type of music that they direct their music. The message that they try to give us, in my opinio, in spite of we have to be showerproof with the comments or incident that can injure in the moment insomuch as if we let them to affect us, we’ll let they beat us and maybe provoke a big problema with the love for yourself. I said that this is created the people will be more strong.
I can say “I like this song” because at the momento I hear her I feel more strong, nothing bad can happens to me, nothing can damage to me and if I am different is nothing bad.
The rhythm and intonation make wake up us and make put attention on the letter of this song and give wanting dance to us.
The life is really hard but we always must pass difficulty and we not be intimated by the other people, for more to be criticized.
I think this song is very good, good message counter the discrimination and good video. I have to add I like this rhythm and David guetta. In my personal opinion I recommend you listen it and understand this song, if you are passing for a bad moment which you feel vulnerable, you must be strong and fight for your ideals.

Who has not felt last take, wanting leave all dispose of and go out?

THE GENDER WAR

... Now you must be thinking I should get a zero because of the video I'm posting, but you don't have to pay too much attention to this video to realize the message that is sending, actually it's very explicit, but I recommend you to turn off the audio if you don't like the song, because the important thing is in the images.

We've been talking about stereotypes for a while and I believe, in this video, what Jennifer Lopez is trying to do is to break the differences between men and women, to stop this "macho men" thing that is getting really old for the XXI century, and she's doing it in a very particular way, more like a fun way to make people watch this video and not feel insulted by it.

What we see here is a grown woman showing that women can take a man and put him on camera as a sex object too. Men have been doing that since forever. Formerly, they used to objectify the female gender just for their own desires, took them as nothing but a physical thing and they never cared if women were ok with that (women, obviously, weren't). But nowadays, society has evolved and most of the countries have more respect for the woman and what we see in music videos is just a strategy to sell records, so it is assumed that we shouldn't feel insulted anymore, besides, the girls in those videos are in them because they want to. So, if this is true... Why are women still feeling insulted by men? Easy, although they respect us, there's a little detail: the stereotype of the perfect woman, the one that "deserves" to be shown, to be loved, to be wanted is a tall, blonde, skinny, good dancer, etc. woman and not every girl is like that.

So, Jennifer Lopez also wanted them to know that women can have a stereotype of the perfect man: a workout man, with beach body, etc. and to make sure they understand this, she put a bunch of guys wearing swimsuit (that looks more like underwear) showing us all their "charm".

Personally, I believe that this video is the perfect combination of a hidden protest against the objectification of the woman by doing the same thing that men often do to us, keeping it cool and fun, if you take it with humor nobody gets hurt and, taking advantage of the situation, this is also a little gift for women who can enjoy this really interesting video.

You may draw your own conclusions...

When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

Vienna is a song written in 1977, by Billy Joel for his album "The Stranger" -one of my favourite records, by the way- and was released as the B-side of the EP "She's always a woman" single.

When I was an adolescent (some people say that the adolescence lasts until the 25, but I don't feel that way anymore), I used to get this negative moods all the time. I felt depressed, sleepy, out of strength. I wasn't sure about what I wanted to do with my life. Also I got reckless, because I felt with no motivation, even if I had too many pasions and ambitions.I just felt that I wasn't in the right rail, for making my dreams true.

And that is what this song is about, basically, about the fears and doubts of a young kid. Joel gives like sort of advices for people that feel that way. This gonna be sound a little bit cliché, maybe, but the first time I've heard it I was alone, in a coffee shop, getting some tea before going to college, and hearing the phrase "YOU CAN GET WHAT YOU WANT OR YOU CAN JUST GET OLD" made such a big sense to me, it was like a signal from, I don't know, I'm not very religious, but someone with power or maybe something. The fact is that I was at this uncertain time of my life, and this song was like a interpellation for me. It gave to me the motivation for keep doing things, think about the future with hope and believe in my habilities and the things I can do for making myself happy.

We are young, people with a lot oportunities to come, but sometimes we forget that we're living in the time on most of all the decisions that will change our lives will get done. So raise up the bar, don't think that what you're are dreaming is sorta out of your posibilities. Make efforts, make it real.

Heal the World - Michael Jackson

The song "Heal the World" is the sixth single from the Dangerous album by Michael Jackson. He himself said he wrote this song in a tree in his Neverland Ranch, in addition to being considered one of the most successful songs of his career.Heal the World
Was inspired by the song name to create the Heal the World Foundation in 1992, a foundation of  aid homeless children. This is a charity which Jackson sent 46 tons of humanitarian aid to Sarajevo, performed multiple campaigns against drug and alcohol abuse, and donated millions of dollars for children in poverty or ill, including full payment of liver transplant.
During the video you can see several pictures of sick children in extreme poverty, people in the war while there are children playing and people of different races and cultures. Many children and adolescents are also seen running together, and with candles in hand somehow symbolizing peace and tolerance. ending the video you  see a hand holding the world symbolizing the union.
I think the lyrics of the song leaves a clear message, which is in favor of the unity of the people regardless of race, sex or culture, in an attempt to get a better and fairer world, where there is no fear, pain, and as the song says "together we cry happy tears" to heal the planet, which every day is changing and not necessarily for the better, that is why with the help of all and the infinite love that each one has can make the world shine, because if everyone puts a bit, you can achieve a great change can be significant.

This song definitely sends us a very important message, and we have to realize we are doing things that are really hurting many people, especially children and help each other, because we are all brothers and sisters on this great planet called Earth.

Michael Jackson - They don't care about us.

About The Song
"They Don't Care About Us" is the fourth single from Michael Jackson's album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I, released on March 31, 1996. The song remains one of the most controversial pieces Jackson ever composed. In the US, media scrutiny surrounding antisemitic lyrics were the catalyst for Jackson issuing multiple apologies and re-recording the song with altered lyrics. The singer countered allegations of antisemitism, arguing that reviews had misinterpreted the context of the song, either unintentionally or deliberately.

Jackson says:
The idea that these lyrics could be deemed objectionable is extremely hurtful to me, and misleading. The song in fact is about the pain of prejudice and hate and is a way to draw attention to social and political problems. I am the voice of the accused and the attacked. I am the voice of everyone. I am the skinhead, I am the Jew, I am the black man, I am the white man. I am not the one who was attacking. It is about the injustices to young people and how the system can wrongfully accuse them. I am angry and outraged that I could be so misinterpreted.

My opinion.
In my opinion the song is a great piece of music, the critiques about of the discrimination and the political themes are so strong , the message  of jackson is  very clear, it's walk in the shoes  of others, no more discrimination for the people.
The song talk about  religion,  race, ethnicity.
I think the people interpreted the message in diferent  forms, but  the  message  is always the same, also the people can see other  things  like, "no the song is a mess and don´t  I agree with that." I dont  know,  but I think the people   agree with the song  in a hundred  percent, because   the theme it´s  so powerful  and   realist  in the  actuality.
the lyrics is so controversial, the vídeo is perfect to me, because show part of favelas in  brazil it's a place very diminished.  The population is vulnerable and  few resources.

The best part  of song to me is.
Tell me what has become of my rights
Am I invisible 'cause you ignore me?
Your proclamation promised me free liberty, now.
I'm tired of bein' the victim of shame
They're throwin' me in a class with a bad name
I can't believe this is the land from which I came
You know I really do hate to say it
The government don't wanna see

But it Roosevelt was livin', he wouldn't let this be, no no.

Moby - Natural Blues - "It does not matter wherever you come from..."

It does not matter wherever you come from...

This song, written by the American musician Moby, is
one of the music videos and songs that I like the most; it is part of his
studio album called PLAY, in 1999. There is another video about this song, but,
I like the way this one was animated and directed by Susi Wilkinson, Hotessa Laurence, and Filipe Alçada.

When we are immersing in a world like we are, we tend
to think about certain things that are not important, but, what about thinking
about culture? As we see in the video, some cultures are joining there, not
explicit but if you try to see beyond your eyes, you can notice those are
there. Black people, disabled people, aliens, animals and musicians appear in
the video all together, all creating a clear atmosphere, where they are all the
same, they are equals in a way.

While you are listening to the lyric you may close
your eyes and you can start imagining what kind of things your mind is
creating, a lot of pictures about culture, about people, about nationalities,
about ethnics that are not explicit but you can infer.

It does not matter whether you are white, black, or yellow,
you are a person, and you have feelings and sensations, and despite of being
racist we can start opening our minds to new thoughts, to new arguments to say,
to new points of view, to a new era where we are human beings with soul and
heart and not only a piece of body.

To all the world

first of all , this song don't gives me great emotions, or brings me back memories ,the music video don't catches my attention because is pretty simple and minimalist , it doesn't have too many colors and is quite dark , but I like its content, this song is about the farewell letter from a man ,NOT A SUICIDE LETTER , it's only his last words before dying and his memories which are directed to their loved ones. The video was directed by Max Norman and Dave Mustaine ( the singer and the lead of the band ) and was recorded and released in 1995 . In the beginning of the video it shows a tombstone with a name on it , also shows images of a child and an old man , which refers to the passage of the life of man , and finally shows  the man in front of his grave, all these are scenes that refers to one thing , death. What I like of this song is the beautiful way that the man remember his life and tries to calm their loved ones and do not suffer with his departure, and only remember him with a smile on their face. The message of the song is more than clear and don't have great metaphors , but I think that makes it more attractive to me in some way. The only thing that this song causes me , is the desire to be played at my funeral , because it will be beautiful that the people  could understand this beautiful message and understand that the memories will always remain in the memories of each.
Now I'd like to put the verse in french of this song.

A tout le monde (To all the world)
A tout mes amis (To all my friends)
Je vous aime (I love you)
Je dois partir (I must leave)

And to finish this, let me ask you one simple question. Have you ever thought which would be your finals words?
